Unsatisfied with the daily grind of a Silicon Valley “business coach and life consultant,” Dean Cook weasels his way into a once-in-a-lifetime chance for fame and fortune a speaking slot at the National Motivational Speaker’s Conference in West Virginia. Three days before the conference, Dean’s girlfriend breaks up with him and destroys his passport and identification cards. Dean’s flight plans are now scrapped, and he’s forced to steal a second hand ambulance. On the high-speed drive across the country he meets a Russian girl on the run from her fiancé, a brutal and eccentric collector of women’s hosiery. Dean and the girl escape from a series of catastrophes including a shotgun wedding in Reno, Sea MonkeysTM in the Great Salt Lake, and parachuting from a B-25 bomber over Kentucky.
Scrambling to catch up to Dean are his gender-bending parents, who see this as the last chance to throw their son a party that doesn’t end in complete disaster. Because, after all, it’s Dean’s birthday.

Any serious fan of humorous print will love this book.Nearly every novel that rolls off the presses has a blurb claiming that it’s hilarious, and maybe it is to someone, but I’m restricting myself to books where laughter is the main point. Colegrove’s great achievement is he establishes the right frame of mind, there’s nothing more zanier or funnier. And there is a lot of it. His humor shines thru as he ventures forth to overcome wild and crazy obstacles prior to the Speakers Conference. Not all of his efforts worked. In the end he found the right combination of techniques that helped him overcome anxiety. I can tell you that this book will make a hell of a stir when it’s passed around.
Very funny could not stop laughing. Highly recommend

Took a while to get into it but became rather interesting as it went along. the Characters were quite colorful.
The reviews claimed this book was funny, but I found it disjointed, bizarre and definitely not funny. I suppose some will like this author's style but I couldn't finish the book.

funny & fast paced. I liked it, sometimes a little long-winded but over all kinda fun
If you're anything like me, you expect books written as "comedy" to be absolute garbage, especially when they're published on a format that allows any old nobody with a computer to upload their drivel and the book in question costs about as much as a (incredibly overpriced) cup of coffee.
Despite my apprehensions, I was feeling like being a kind soul and trusting the unanimously positive reviews for this book. Imagine my surprise when the Amish Spaceman was not your average cringe-inducing "funny" trash!
The author actually knows how to write a sentence that contains humor, which immediately places him above 99% of all independent "humorists" and well above many traditionally published authors. So read the book you'll smile, you'll giggle, you'll chortle. You might even enjoy it!
This book is just pure fun! I found myself immediately intrigued and laughing at the hilarity of Dean's shenanigans. He's a writer, who embarks on a journey across the country to serve as a speaker at a conference. You won't believe what nonsense ensues. Trust me, you'll be entertained and this is not a book you will ever forget. Well written, clever dialogue, and a quick paced plot make this a 5 star winner for me!
With a bit of slapstick and absurdity it's hard to stop reading because you get the sense you'll miss something if you do. The cover picture accurately portrays the main character of this story who is bigger than life but believable in a weird sort of way (if you can suspend disbelief), kind of like your odd uncle Charlie at the family reunion.
